During his two decades based in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan, Chako became one of the region’s most sought-after bandleaders for high-profile corporate and cultural events. He has performed for global brands such as Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Chanel, Coca-Cola, Toyota, Citibank, Visa International, Merrill Lynch, CNN, and Singapore Airlines, as well as at luxury hotels including The Ritz-Carlton, The Peninsula, Raffles, The Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Hilton, and Grand Hyatt. His groups have also appeared at major venues and institutions such as the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Hong Kong Cultural Center, American Chamber of Commerce, and the Singapore Ministry of the Arts, reflecting the international recognition of his sophisticated and cosmopolitan sound.

With more than 80 original compositions and 22 albums to his name, Chako’s music blends Mainstream and Hard Bop traditions with Latin and World influences, earning critical praise from international publications and consistent placements on the JazzWeek, CMJ, and RMR Jazz Charts, including multiple Top Ten appearances.

In 2022, Chako joined Mint 400 Records and Raining Music, ushering in a remarkably productive new chapter. Since then, he’s released a steady flow of acclaimed albums—averaging three per year—including Friends, Old & New (2022), A Place for Bass (2023), Life After 40 (2024), Standard Roots (2024), and Comfort Food (2025). His work has drawn praise from luminaries such as Dave Stryker, Rufus Reid, Peter Bernstein, and John Clayton, while collaborations with artists like Steve Thornton (formerly with Miles Davis) highlight his versatility and global reach.

Chako’s upcoming projects include a holiday release (Nov 2025) and a Hard-Bop quintet album of all originals (mid-2026), continuing his lifelong pursuit of musical growth and cross-cultural expression.

Critics describe his sound as “full of nuances, integrating fusion, blues, and swing” (Jazz Dimensions, Germany) and “a jazz mosaic painted with the very best of culture, ethnic, and musical sensibilities” (Jazz Reviews). As Professor Vince Lewis wrote for Just Jazz Guitar, Greg Chako’s music “transcends geographic boundaries and cultures and communicates the happiness and friendship that all music should provide.
