A little over a year ago, a simple conversation with the new general manager of Sorrento’s Italian Joint led to what I’ve since called the perfect local gig: a weekly Saturday night duo in a casual, family-run neighborhood restaurant that’s been part of Cincinnati since 1956.
This kind of duo work leaves nothing hidden. Rhythm, swing, melody, groove: it all has to be there, without excess and without ego. It’s demanding, but deeply rewarding. Before long, it felt important to document a musical situation we genuinely look forward to every week.
Many guests come for the food and stay for the music, often applauding after each tune. The staff treats us beautifully. The room listens. Everyone wins.
Come To Sorrento’s is a snapshot of two working jazz musicians, doing what they love, and striving, night after night, to create the perfect ambience with music.
